Excellence for all

Welcome to Carlton Keighley

Mark Turvey Mark Turvey Head of School

Welcome to Carlton Keighley. We are a community-focused, caring and inclusive school who are proud to offer a high standard of education for all young people. We serve a community which faces significant disadvantages, but do not believe this should be a barrier to the young people achieving incredible outcomes and becoming respectful citizens.

The school has been on a rapid journey of improvement since it began working with the outstanding Carlton Academy Trust in September 2019.  In January 2020 the school achieved a ‘Good’ judgement from Ofsted; the improvements made since this inspection were acknowledged in a further ungraded inspection in February 2025.

At Carlton Keighley, we believe that character and culture matter. Our core values are ambition, resilience and respect. Our staff and pupils live out these values every day through their actions in school.

We have high standards of behaviour and high academic expectations for all learners. Our recent Ofsted report described behaviour in school as excellent. School is a calm, orderly, safe and purposeful environment. Pupils are respectful of themselves, each other and the school community and environment. Our curriculum is ambitious for the achievement of all pupils. We prioritise literacy, to foster a love of reading and writing. As a result of consistent teaching, pupils have a secure understanding of the curriculum.

We believe in educating the whole child and want all of our students to become the best version of themselves. We place a high value on wider personal development, and our ‘Carlton Edge’ programme gives pupils an entitlement to a range of experiences that go beyond the academic. The school has achieved external accreditation with both the National Arts Mark for our commitment for fostering student creativity, and the Careers Mark in acknowledgement of how we prepare students for life beyond school.

We place teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do. We understand that, like all elite professionals, practice is the key to continuous improvement; we invest time in research-driven CPD to support staff development.  We also believe that if colleagues are happy and supported, they can thrive. Staff are very proud to work at the school; they feel valued. We are mindful of staff workload, and believe in a good work-life balance. We aim to remove unnecessary distractions, so staff can focus on the things that really impact on young people’s lives, both inside and outside the classroom.

Having worked at Carlton Keighley for over a decade, working closely with the community to ensure that the young people we serve access the high-quality education they deserve, it is a constant source of pride to see the school flourish and become a hub of excellence in the local area.

We look forward to welcoming students, families and colleagues who share our values and ambition to grow with the school as we continue to deliver excellence for the young people of Keighley.
