Excellence for all

Welcome to Carlton Keighley

Mark Turvey Mark Turvey Head of School

Welcome to Carlton Keighley, a caring and inclusive school, rooted in our local community.

The school has been on a rapid journey of improvement since it began working with the outstanding Carlton Academy Trust in 2019, with two successive Good judgments from Ofsted in both 2020 and 2025. More recently, the school has received recognition as Bradford Secondary School of the Year at the Telegraph and Argus Education Awards, and our finest exam results ever in 2026.

At Carlton Keighley, we believe that character and culture matter. Our core values are ambition, resilience and respect. Our staff and pupils live out these values every day through their actions in school.

We have high standards of behaviour and high academic expectations for all learners. We also offer high levels of support to meet these expectations.

Our recent Ofsted report described behaviour in school as excellent. School is a calm, orderly, safe and purposeful environment. Pupils feel safe and have a sense of belonging in school; they attend well. They are respectful of themselves, each other and the school community and environment.

Our curriculum is ambitious for the achievement of all pupils. We prioritise literacy, to foster a love of reading and writing. As a result of consistent teaching, pupils have a secure understanding of the curriculum. This is reflected in our exam results, with nearly two thirds of pupils were able to progress to their desired next steps at 6th Form or college, studying A-Levels, high-quality vocational courses or Apprenticeships.

We believe in educating the whole child and want all of our students to become the best version of themselves. We place a high value on wider personal development, and our ‘Carlton Edge’ enrichment programme gives pupils an entitlement to a range of experiences that go beyond the academic. The school has achieved external accreditation with both the National Arts Mark and the Careers Mark Award.

We place teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do. We understand that, like all elite professionals, practice is the key to continuous improvement; we invest time in research-driven CPD to support staff development. We also believe that if colleagues are happy and supported, they can thrive. Staff are very proud to work at the school; they feel valued. We are mindful of staff workload, and believe in a good work-life balance so staff can focus on the things that really impact on young people’s lives, both inside and outside the classroom.

Having worked at Carlton Keighley for over a decade, working closely with the community to ensure that the young people we serve access the high-quality education they deserve, it is a constant source of pride to see the school flourish and become a hub of excellence in the local area.

We look forward to welcoming students, families and colleagues who share our values and ambition to grow with the school as we continue to deliver excellence for the young people of Keighley.
