ne of our very talented Year 7 students has been shortlisted for the prestigious West Yorkshire Young Poet Laureate competition.
Leen was one of only 20 students selected from across the region, making this an outstanding achievement and a proud moment for the whole school community!
As part of the competition, Leen and the other shortlisted students were invited to attend a full-day poetry masterclass in Leeds last week, where they had the opportunity to perform their poems in front of the judging panel. The event celebrated creativity, confidence and a passion for writing among young people from across West Yorkshire.
Mark Turvey, Headteacher at Carlton Keighley, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Leen for this remarkable achievement. To be shortlisted from so many talented young writers across West Yorkshire is a testament to her creativity, dedication and confidence.
Leen has worked exceptionally hard and her progress has been fantastic to see. She is now among the students with the highest reading ages in the school, which reflects the commitment she brings to her learning every day.
Opportunities like this help our students to grow in confidence and showcase their talents beyond the classroom, and we are delighted to see Leen recognised in this way. Well done, Leen!”
Everyone at Carlton Keighley congratulates Leen on this fantastic accomplishment!
