There was plenty to celebrate last night as Carlton Keighley was named Secondary School of the Year at the prestigious T&A Education Awards.
The award recognises the incredible transformation the school has achieved over the past six years and celebrates the hard work, determination and ambition shown by students, staff, families and the wider community.
From a school once identified in Ofsted’s Stuck Schools research, Carlton Keighley has grown into a thriving and oversubscribed school where students are supported to achieve, feel valued and develop confidence for the future.
Mark Turvey, Head of Carlton Keighley, proudly said:
“This award means so much to everyone connected with Carlton Keighley. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to our dedicated staff, supportive families and wider community who have all played a part in this journey.
Our school is built on high expectations, ambition, respect, and care & opportunity for every child, and it is wonderful to see that recognised through this award.
As someone who is a big advocate for Keighley, it is amazing to be able to bring some positive news to the town and to be able to shine a spotlight on the wonderful community we serve.”
The school’s success can be seen across every area of school life. Student numbers have grown from 582 in 2019 to 820 in 2025, with the school now oversubscribed through first-choice applications.
Attendance has risen to 92.4%, placing Carlton Keighley among the top 40% nationally, while behaviour and the school’s caring, inclusive culture were praised during its second consecutive Good Ofsted inspection earlier this year.
Academic outcomes have also improved significantly, including a 12% rise in maths results. Reading ages increased by an average of 19 months in one year, while the number of functionally illiterate students fell by 31%, helping more young people build confidence and achieve success.
This award marks another important milestone in Carlton Keighley’s journey and reinforcing our school’s growing reputation across the region.
That’s great and all, and we commend you for pushing through with it. Unfortunately we no longer offer support for IE; it hasn’t received a major update since 2015 and Microsoft are dropping support for it later in the year.
